Customized Spiral Wound Gaskets Manufacturer in China

Industrial Sealing Solution

Spiral Wound Gaskets (SWG)

Engineered for extreme pressure, thermal cycling, and harsh chemical environments. As a trusted manufacturer, Ningbo Kaxite Sealing Materials delivers certified leak-tight sealing solutions compliant with international engineering standards.

What is a Spiral Wound Gasket?

A Spiral Wound Gasket consists of a preformed V-shaped metallic strip and a soft non-metallic filler (such as expanded graphite or PTFE) wound together under mechanical tension. The metal strip provides exceptional recovery and structural strength, while the soft filler guarantees superior compressibility and sealability under fluctuating bolt loads. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: How do I choose between a spiral wound gasket with an inner ring and one without?

An inner ring is strongly recommended for high pressures (Class 900+), corrosive or toxic media, and high-velocity fluids. It fills the annular space, prevents media turbulence, stops solids accumulation, and prevents inward buckling.

Q2: Can spiral wound gaskets be reused after flange disassembly?

No. Per standard ASME engineering guidelines, spiral wound gaskets are designed for single-use only. Reusing them compromises the deformed metallic V-spring and soft filler, drastically increasing the risk of leakage.

Q3: What is the maximum temperature limit for graphite-filled SWGs?

In standard oxidizing atmospheres, graphite-filled spiral wound gaskets can safely operate up to 650°C (1200°F). In steam or inert atmospheres, they withstand even higher operating ranges depending on the winding metal.
